Rooted Words

"Root for yourself against the negative thoughts taking root in your head."

INSTRUCTIONS

• Remove or add suffixes to turn the root word into something more positive.
•  Slash the suffix in the word shown to remove the suffix. You can slash by holding the left mouse button and dragging it across.
• If a suffix is available, click on the button of the suffix to use it.
• Get the suffix of the word shown by slashing the root word.
• Beware: slashing root words or failing to turn the root word positive will have a chance of making the word take root in the suffix buttons.
• The game is over once all four suffix buttons are filled with negative words.

ABOUT THE GAME

A prototype game for school. Initially was an attempt for Global Game Jam 2023 but things happened that made me unable to do it. Therefore, I wanted to still see if I can do it. For a first solo game, it was a nice experience, but there's still more to improve that I hope to do once I've done my training arc.

MAIN STUFF I LEARNED

Getting a bit more familiar with Unity	Storing data as scriptable objects	UI things like text and buttons
Randomizing data (Changing random word)	Looking for alternative methods if all current knowledge fails (haha making collisions)	Limitations and abilities of some of the things in Unity
Using a word manager thing !!	Things like field text or header for the Unity inspector	Stop overthinking and create :' )

STUFF TO EXPAND ON

Add a proper tutorial	Include more words, as well as suffixes and prefixes since its repetitive	Add audio
Add a title screen	Save high score	Have simple animations
Clean/Optimize code	Fix problems like trail renderer not cutting off properly or cursor not showing proper look when hovering over buttons	Make it slightly gamified learning to be a small supplement to learning about root words/suffix/prefixes?
